Dino-Riders

The peaceful Valorians flee the warlike Rulons through time and crash in the age of dinosaurs. Questar’s people bond with the great beasts; Krulos’s Rulons enslave them with brain-boxes. The cartoon is toyetic and strangely earnest: honor, dinosaurs, and lasers on a Cretaceous morning.

How they stand to one another

Questar

Valorian leader

A handsome, serene man in his thirties with a noble oval face, medium-brown hair in a slightly fuller 80s cartoon wave, and calm light eyes. Fair-tanned skin. He wears white-and-blue Valorian armor that looks ceremonial and athletic, not grim. Medium-tall, upright, often with a dinosaur at his shoulder in group art. No facial hair. He looks like a peaceable captain forced into a war movie.

Idealistic, diplomatic, refuses Rulon methods even when they work. Leads Serena and Mind-Zei; nemesis of Krulos; Rasp is a recurring field threat.

Serena

Valorian healer

A woman in her late twenties with long blonde hair, a gentle oval face, and blue eyes. She wears paler Valorian gear with healer’s markings, less militarized than the men. Fair skin, a calm mouth. The design is of-its-era but we keep her a person: competent, not a trophy. She often stands with a smaller dinosaur or a medical pack. Hands are careful.

Empathic, stubborn about life, the team’s moral pulse. Questar’s closest counsel; Mind-Zei’s student in a way; opposes Krulos’s brain-boxes as a healer’s heresy.

Mind-Zei

Valorian elder

An older man with a bald or high-foreheaded sage look, pale beard or clean wise face (the show’s elder: we use a bald-pate, gray remaining hair, white beard). Kind, lined eyes. Robes over light armor, staff. He is the smallest of the male principals, spiritually large. Skin weathered. He looks like a monk who crash-landed in the Jurassic.

Patient teacher, telepathic calm, warns against becoming Rulon to beat Rulons. Mentor to Questar and Serena; Krulos would break him for the secret of Valorian peace; Rasp finds him inconvenient.

Krulos

Rulon commander

A bulky, frog-like reptilian humanoid, green-gray mottled skin, wide mouth, predatory eyes, and a general’s armor in dark metal with orange-red accents. He is shorter than a human hero but broader, with a commanding belly and powerful limbs. A brain-box control device is part of his silhouette. He should look like a tyrant toad-king from a toy catalog, not a realistic animal.

Domineering, clever enough, addicted to control. Commands Rasp; hunts Questar; sees Serena’s compassion as weakness; Mind-Zei is a battery of secrets.

Rasp

Rulon lieutenant

A slender, snake-headed Rulon, scales in olive and yellow, slit pupils, and a cruel thin smile. Armor is lighter, made for speed. He is the knife to Krulos’s hammer: longer neck, quicker hands. A hissing silhouette. Toy-accurate reptile-man, not photoreal snake. Eyes are the meanest thing in the frame.

Sycophant with initiative, enjoys the hunt. Krulos’s field commander; personal rival energy with Questar; threatens Serena; fears Mind-Zei’s mind more than his staff.

Visual language

Late-1980s syndicated toy animation: bright dinosaur greens and dusty ochres, glossy plastic-looking armor, clean character models, jungle ferns as repeating background stamps. Lasers are solid-color beams. Faces are simple and earnest; Rulons are more reptilian.

Cretaceous daylight, rim-light on dino armor, red Rulon glows versus blue Valorian tech. Cel paint, toy-accurate vehicle lines, slight VHS softness, leaf-stamp backgrounds.
