Ralph Hinkley
Teacher in the suit
A lanky man in his thirties with an open, slightly goofy handsome face, medium-brown hair in a period cut, and kind, worried eyes. Average-to-thin build—not a bodybuilder. The famous red suit is snug, with a black undershirt suggestion, belt, and a cape that never quite behaves. Civilian: corduroy, collared shirts, the uniform of a high-school teacher. He looks like someone who apologizes when he lands badly. Light stubble only when exhausted.
Decent, anxious, funny without meaning to be, stubbornly moral. Partners with Bill Maxwell; loves Pam; students are his other secret identity; aliens remain inscrutable.
Bill Maxwell
FBI partner
A stocky Black FBI agent in his forties with a round, expressive face, short hair, and a mustache. He wears rumpled government suits, loosened ties, and the posture of a man whose feet hurt. Dark brown skin, sharp skeptical eyes that can go warm. Not glamorous—television-real, slightly sweaty in the California heat. A holstered world, even when the camera is kind.
Cynical, loyal, the adult in the room who still believes in the work. Ralph’s handler and foil; professional with Pam; treats alien miracles as a paperwork problem.
Pam Davidson
Lawyer · partner
A poised woman in her thirties with dark blonde hair in a professional 1980s shape, fair skin, and intelligent light eyes. She dresses in period blouses, blazers, and skirts—competent, not costume-sexy. Medium height, slim-strong. A face that can do comedy and worry in the same scene. Jewelry is modest. She looks like the person who will still be standing when the cape snags on a fence.
Sharp, loving, tired of secrets, the show’s emotional ballast. Ralph’s partner in life; wary ally of Maxwell; not a sidekick.
The Alien
Suit-giver
A humanoid visitor with an elongated, serene face, large dark eyes, and skin with a faint unearthly pallor—neither gray-cliché nor fully human. Clothing is simple, pale, almost priestly. Height similar to Ralph’s. Hair, if any, is fine and colorless. The design should feel 1981 network-TV alien: earnest, a little rubber-suit, a little optical glow, not modern horror xenomorph. Hands are long, gestures slow.
Inscrutable, possibly kind, allergic to complete instructions. Chose Ralph; watched by Maxwell with a gun in the imagination; never fully explained to Pam.
Tony Villicana
Student
A teenage Latino student, maybe sixteen, with dark hair, a lively face, and the clothes of an early-80s public school kid—jacket, jeans, restless energy. Medium build, growing into his height. Brown eyes, a grin that gets him in trouble. He should look like a real kid extra who became a regular, not a fashion model.
Street-smart, loyal to Hinkley, too curious about the suit. Ralph’s student and accidental confidant; Maxwell finds him a security leak; Pam treats him as family-adjacent.
