S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl

After a second catastrophe at Chernobyl, the Exclusion Zone is warped by anomalies, mutants, and the lure of priceless artifacts. The amnesiac Marked One, a stalker, is driven by cryptic orders and haunted by fragments of memory as he navigates shifting alliances, deadly factions, and the Zone’s supernatural threats. The struggle for survival and meaning unfolds in a world where reality itself is unstable, and every choice may bring salvation or doom.

How they stand to one another

Marked One (Strelok)

Lead

An adult male, early 30s, with short dark hair, stubble, and a weathered Eastern European face. Wears a patched, olive-green stalker suit with a hood, armored vest, and utility belt. His eyes are wary, haunted; his build is lean from hardship. Always seen with a PDA and basic gear slung over one shoulder.

Determined, resourceful, haunted by lost memories, driven by a need for answers. Tied to Ghost, Fang, and Doctor; hunted by C-Consciousness and rivals.

Sidorovich

Ally

A burly, middle-aged man with a round, balding head and thick eyebrows. Wears a brown leather vest over a worn shirt, with a heavy gold chain and fingerless gloves. His face is shrewd, jowly, and expressive, often half-lit by lamp glow in his bunker.

Pragmatic, opportunistic, gruff but not cruel; a fixer and survivor. First contact for the Marked One; trades with all stalkers.

Doctor

Heart

A gaunt, middle-aged man with graying hair, a lined, gentle face, and wire-rimmed glasses. Wears a faded lab coat over civilian clothes, boots caked with mud, and carries a battered medical bag. His eyes are kind but shadowed by sorrow.

Compassionate, wise, quietly burdened by the Zone’s tragedies. Caretaker for Strelok and his group; connects the lead to hope and loss.

Colonel Voronin

Rival

A stern, broad-shouldered man in his late 40s, with cropped gray hair and a scar over his left eyebrow. Wears a crisp Duty exoskeleton suit in dark red and black, military insignia visible. His jaw is square, his stare unyielding.

Disciplined, ambitious, unwavering in his mission to control the Zone. Leader of Duty; in tense opposition to stalkers and Freedom alike.

Professor Sakharov

Witness

An older man in his 60s, with a bald dome ringed by wispy gray hair, spectacles, and a kindly, inquisitive face. Wears a blue research jumpsuit with scientific patches, utility vest, and carries a Geiger counter. Slightly stooped, always scribbling notes.

Inquisitive, rational, quietly brave; seeks to understand the Zone’s mysteries. Leads the Ecologists; interprets anomalies and guides stalkers through science.

Visual language

Key art, character portraits, and future comics adopt a heavily desaturated, muted palette dominated by moss greens, rust browns, slate grays, and overcast sky blues. The mood is bleak and atmospheric, with a sense of decay, dread, and isolation. Highlights emerge only from toxic radioactive greens or the warm orange glow of firelight. The visual identity remains rooted in the original era and character authenticity.

Flat, overcast daylight with heavy fog, volumetric light rays, and deep, pitch-black shadows. Pixelated or native 2007 game render, layered with atmospheric haze.
